I wanted to share something with you that I read today:
Hebrews 2:17-18
For this reason He had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.
As lent starts tomorrow, I encourage you all to give up something or try to improve upon something in honor of the sacrifice Christ made for us. I know it is one of those things that at times is often not easy, but do you think Christ dying on the cross for our sins was easy? Also, let’s say you give up chocolate, but one day are really dying to eat some M&M’s. That is a prime example of how the devil will dry to tempt you. Temptation is a nasty thing. If you look at the verse above notice how it talks about how God was first tempted. He has been through it and knows how hard that is, but He trusts that you can lean on him during those times when the devil seems to call your name. The point of advent is to try and relate to Christ and what He went through. When the devil on your shoulder nudges you towards that chocolate, turn to God and He will help you.
This lent I am going to try and dive into the word more. It seems at times I am on fire and on a good rhythm of reading my bible, but it somehow fades out. I started Sunday not even realizing it was lent. We learn so much when we read God’s words and many answers I seek or things I need to hear are in the bible. I just have to take the time to seek it out. I am not doing this as an easy way to get out of giving up something, but I feel like it is something that will really bring me closer to God this time of the year. I am going to try my best to stick with it! I encourage you to do the same.
If you have ever participated in lent then you know that rewarding feeling you get on Easter Sunday. It is something to really be thankful for and I hope you will know that feeling in the coming weeks.
Prayers please as I have a nutrition exam tomorrow morning at 11 and then a full day of studying for another test on Thursday. Thursday afternoon cannot get here fast enough!!
Find something that will challenge you, teach you, and help you be thankful this lent season.
Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful
