THANKFUL FOR: TCU ALERT (KIND OF)

March 21, 2016Uncategorized

Things have been kind of crazy, but as always, I am still thankful. I am going to catch y’all up on this past week… Hope you can keep up!

THURSDAY March 17, 2016

4:07 am: TCU Alert Sytem is going off all over campus. Flashing lights. Loud voices. Not a nightmare. This wakes everyone on campus up. You can imagine how excited we all were. They do this to inform us that dangerous weather is on the way. Not that necessary in my opinion because this dangerous weather was thunder storms. I literally could have slept through that. It finally goes off. I get back in bed

6:40 am: TCU Alert System is back at it again. My roommate and I cannot decide if we need to get up and go in the hallway or stay in bed. We get up and go in the hall to see one guy with his blanket and pillow sleeping. We crawled back in bed as the thing yelled, flashed, and rang. Very annoyed at this point.

7:15 am: TCU Alert System goes off AGAIN. My roommate says, “not getting up.” I agree and lay there. Also let’s keep in mind that every time this goes off it e-mails us, texts us, calls us, and calls our parents on top of all the noise. TCU is very relentless if you cannot tell at this point. I am laying in bed and all I can think is that here I am, a very busy college student that doesn’t get enough sleep in general, but now TCU has decided that they would like to take a little more of that sleep away from me to keep me safe in the middle of the night. I mean I am thankful they want to keep me safe, but I need sleep. I didn’t go to bed until 1:30 am.

I then woke up at 8:30 am for class. It was quite the night. At the time it was very hard to be thankful because my sleepy self was talking. Looking back I could understand one alert, but three was too much. Still a tad bitter they didn’t cancel any morning classes.
Lesson learned here: safety is first and if you are safe it does not matter if you are tired or not…you are living. Eventually I will get over all three calls, but this is the best I can do for now. I mean at times I felt like I was in a bad dream. It just kept happening over and over again. It is kind of comical now!

I need some serious prayers for this week, please. I have a paper, a project, advising, and two tests all before Thursday. Not to mention all the other little things. I am going to need a miracle to make it to Thursday… here we go!!

Same time, same place tomorrow and I will share how the rest of the weekend went. Here’s a hint: it involved no TCU Alert. That is something to be thankful for, y’all!

Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful

Hey There

Blessed is an understatement when it comes to my life. Each and every day I am amazed by God’s steadfast love. In return, I have claimed this space to show my thanks and whatever else comes along the way. A recent graduate from Texas Christian University who loves pop culture, TikToks, and dress pants that make you do a double take.  I pray God has a grand purpose for me and I plan to get there with a little Southern and a lot of Thanks!
