THANKFUL FOR: RESCUE ROAD

April 6, 2016Uncategorized

This post is a couple of days late considering today is April 4th, BUT I am so excited to announce the charity for the month of April. At the end of each month Southern and Thankful takes the total month’s sales and gives a percentage of that to a group or organization that I see fit. I am a firm believer in giving. In order to receive we must first give. Giving is the right thing to do. Some organizations and places operate thanks to a large part of donations. I always enjoy picking a charity and learning about other areas of the world that are in need. Sometimes it is in honor of someone or something. Sometimes I have a personal tie to the charity. But this time I have found something a little different. Most of the time Southern and Thankful seeks to help actual people but this month I am hoping to help a group near and dear to most of our hearts: dogs.

I know stray animals are a huge problem nation wide. I do not have a dog, but I have had a dog and some of my best cousins have been dogs. So yes, I am a dog lover. In fact, I am counting down the days till I can get a dog of my own!!

The specific group that proceeds will be going to this month is called Rescue Road. Here is a little information about this nonprofit organization:

“Founded on September 2nd, 2012, Rescue Road is a 501c3 nonprofit located in Little Rock, Arkansas. We have rescued over 2,600 dogs and counting thanks to foster families just like you. Shelters across our state have high euthanasia rates. We aim to relieve pressure on high-intake areas to help lower those rates. Our core shelter partners include Pine Bluff, West Memphis, Hazen, and Stuttgart. How much time does fostering take? Most adult dogs in our program need a foster commit for 2-3 weeks. Puppies need 6 weeks for vaccines and preventatives to ensure they are healthy and will be protected from illness. Some dogs require longer care for things like heartworms and orthopedic injuries. What does it cost to be a foster family? We provide the vetting. You provide the food, shelter, and love. We cover all vetting expenses though our partnerships with local veterinarians. Most dogs will need at least two visits. Arrangements can be made to accommodate any schedule. Even the IRS loves dogs. Save those receipts from high-quality dog food purchases to deduct on your taxes. These lucky dogs will likely be adopted in inner-city Boston, so crate training indoors is so important while in your care. And finally, the most important thing you must give to each dog is a tiny piece of your heart. And in return you will be filled with love.”

They are truly doing great things and I personally know several people from my hometown that are highly involved with this organization. I am so pleased to officially make this the April charity for Southern and Thankful.

It is that time in the seamster where I am enrolling in classes for next fall when I WILL BE A JUNIOR. Crazy. It is always a stressful process trying to get the right classes. A couple of mine are very close to full and one is already full. Needless to say I enroll at noon tomorrow and would love prayers that everything works out and that I remain calm, cool, and collected. I know I will end up where I am supposed to be!

Lastly, everyday I read a different bible verse and study it in my bible. I am going to start sharing that verse at the end of each post just incase you want a little extra Jesus. Today I read:
“Whenever you feel unloved, unimportant, or insecure, remember to whom you belong to.” – Ephesians
2:19-22

Join me in helping those who cannot help themselves. Dogs are on this world for a reason! Let’s help keep it that way!

Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful
