When Sophomore year started, I quickly realized that time was ticking. I decided that I did not want to study abroad for a whole semester because I don’t want to be away from here or my family for that long. After looking at this and weighing my options, I decided I wanted to study abroad in the summer and what better summer to study abroad than this summer, right?
I looked at all the different places I could go, got the opinions of good travelers (JanJan and Bia), and looked at where I would get the most out of the experience. I decided to apply for a “Maymester” trip through the Bob Schieffer School of Communications that spends 10 days in Rome and 10 days in Florence with time to travel on the weekends and gives me 6 credit hours. I have never been to this part of the world and so I applied.
Today I received a notification saying I had been accepted to go this summer!! I would call this exciting news!!
Here is a little blurb about my trip;
“Experience the communication and culture of Italy–from the legacy of the Roman world to the distinctive life of the modern. See the fascinating Eternal City of Rome and the stunning galleries of Renaissance Florence. Study the foundation of communication through the rhetoric of Ancient Rome and the visual spectacle of the early Western world. Discover the persuasive power of words in one of the most celebrated meeting places in all of history and explore modern-day nonverbal communication using the unique Italian cultural lens. Enjoy historic and modern Italy through the Colosseum, Pantheon, Sistine Chapel, Uffizi Gallery, and beautiful Tuscany. Live as a local through a culinary class, vineyard tour, and night at the opera! Earn up to six hours of credit by participating in one or both classes.”
I already know God has wonderful things planned for me on this adventure. It hasn’t really set in that I will be going, but once I get over the shock, Italy is calling!!
Super thankful for my family, TCU, and God because without them this would not be a possibility.
I hope you get some exciting news this week because it is something to be thankful for. If not, you can always join in my exciting news… I am happy to share!
Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful
Exciting news! You will love, love, love Italy plus the perk of getting 6 credit hours is amazing! Lots of quaint little villages that are not that far from Florence or Rome by bus or train. So thrilled and proud for you.
I just got caught up on your blog, and it is always such a pleasure!! The tribute to Kim was so sweet and endearing. I toured Tuscany in October and you are in for a special treat. We started out in Florence and ended in Rome. Beautiful, beautiful and such history…..I am thrilled for you! Take good care of yourself! Love, Granna
