THANKFUL FOR: DECEMBER 1ST

December 2, 2015Uncategorized

It is December 1st people and that means Christmas is in FULL swing. All of a sudden, lights are up everywhere and huge red bows are on every corner. I have officially turned over to the “holly” serious XM radio station…one of the best things about this time of year. I went to Starbucks for a good ole cup of hot cocoa AND it was in a red holiday themed cup. I went downtown for a photo shoot by the huge Christmas tree that Fort Worth puts up because I may or may not have something FABULOUS coming soon! I also went to one of the best events that is put on by TCU every year… The annual Christmas tree lighting. TCU brings in a huge tree, fireworks that could easily be compared to the ones at Disney World, and they bring in the North pole. Reindeer, cookies, hot cocoa, Santa and Mrs. Claus, Santa frog (super frog dressed in a Santa suit), and the whole community and many alumni come together to celebrate the start of the Christmas season. By far one of the coolest events TCU puts on. They also read a poem that mimics “The Night Before Christmas” , but instead they call it “The Night Before Finals.” It is only December 1st and we have already kicked things off with a bang. One, it’s because we all truly love Christmas around here, but two finals are so soon and that doesn’t really make a good time to have the true Christmas spirit so we start a little early. Finals are going to be crazy, but for right now I am trying desperately to enjoy this moment that I am in before I feel overwhelmed with stress.

Today I also posted on my personal Facebook page to ask for volunteers for the salvation army bell ringing on the day that I am in charge in Stuttgart, AR.
For the past 5 years I have organized a day of ringing the Salvation Army Bell, right before Christmas, where my friends, family and I spend the day ringing the bell in front of the local grocery store. I always look forward to this because it reminds me each year of why it is important to serve and help others. I have learned about the generosity of others, and the feeling of giving is better than most any feeling. An experience like ringing the bell restores your faith in mankind just in time for the Christmas season!

On Monday December 21, 2015, I will be in charge of the local bell for the day and would love anyone and everyone in the Stuttgart area to sign up for a shift!!
1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. is open and you can sign up hourly! (Ex. 2:00 to 4:00)
If you want to volunteer, go to my Facebook page and comment on the second post (of me ringing the bell a couple of years ago). I would love for you to volunteer!  Together we can help others remember the reason for the season.

Today is one of those days that gets you excited. It is a new month. The stress and worries that November brought are behind me and now all I can do is look ahead! And I see a huge Christmas tree and fireplace waiting for me down the road. Boy oh boy aren’t you thankful for this time of year? Happy December 1st people!! May you be thankful today for a new month that will bring lots of joy AND may you remain thankful through this crazy time in life! Let the holiday festivities begin!!

Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful
