Thankful for: brave

July 31, 2014Uncategorized

1. I am so very sorry for my absence from blogging. 2. With every mistake comes an excuse right? But in my opinion I have a pretty good excuse! Last week I spent the whole week in New Orleans with my youth group and I had no way to communicate with the world outside of the 7th ward of New Orleans. In order to better get the best experience out of the week we did not have our cell phones, therefore I was not able to share the many thankful events of giving back in New Orleans. You ask what BRAVE is? Nowadays when I hear BRAVE the popular song by Sara Bareilles immediately starts to play in my head. In this case, BRAVE was the theme of the week. BRAVE stands for:
Blessings
Revive
Accountability
Values
Evangelism
Five different acronyms for five different days of devotion. I loved what this stands for and love how it was so relatable to the work we were doing last week. I was able to work at a school that took a huge hit during hurricane Katrina. After the hurricane they moved the school and what was left into several trailer like facilities and turned it into a nice school for its factually and students. The problem is that it was only built to last about five years and now it is about to go on its ninth year. We painted the whole office trailer, some offices, bathrooms, classrooms, worked in the library, and more. We worked so hard that we finished all the work ahead of schedule. One day, I got the opportunity to work at a house in the ninth ward that the YRO was rebuilding. This was fun, but I felt like I was of more help at the school. Either way it was fun to give back and grow closer to The Lord. On our free day we got the chance to take a swamp tour and to spend some time with children at a local children’s home. (our group loves kids) It is always good to do something for the better. I encourage you to take a mission trip some time in your life because going on this journey is so rewarding. I have been on 5 different mission trips and after each one I have come back with a new prospective/lesson about life. I am thankful for BRAVE and opportunities  to give back. Take advantage of something like this next time you have the chance. You won’t regret it!
Feels good to be back I’d say!
Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful
