THANKFUL FOR: A REASON TO READ A GOOD BOOK

January 19, 2016Uncategorized

I don’t know about you, but one thing that brings me pure joy in life is reading a good book. The older you get in school the more required reading there is and the less fun it becomes. I am sorry, but I do not really want to spend my time reading a bunch of textbooks. I mean I know I sign up for the class, but a lot of the time I feel there is a better way to learn than having a student read 30 pages in a textbook every night. At least in my case, I am not that type of learner. But no worries, I have found a class that has put my reading mood at a little bit of a better level (if that makes sense).

Funny story:
Here at TCU you have to satisfy a certain number of core classes over your 4 years here. Some core can be very difficult. Some can be very manageable and fun. The hard part is finding that manageable and fun core because it is at times almost hidden. Last semester I heard of a class that was for Education majors only, but it satisfied TWO core credits… AKA a double dipper (big deal people… for real). My friend said that I could get in if I had a permission number. After a series of e-mails I had the address of the woman who gave out the permission code and I proceeded to do my best to get a code from her. I e-mailed her so many times it actually isn’t very funny, but my determination paid off because I got the permission code and all is great with the world. Oh… and the class is Children’s Literature…. You can now see why I am finding the joy in reading again.

No boring text books. An actual story. With characters. Entertainment. Pure joy people.

So today I have been reading “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” because it was assigned by my teacher. And yes I read it many years ago, but when my teacher tells me to read something for class I have to do it, right? 😉

I  am excited to read it again because it has been so long. Also, you are probably thinking that I can read fun books whenever I want. This is true, but especially during the school year I do not really have a lot of time to read a good book. I wish I did, but I sadly just can’t seem to find the time. I do always look forward to vacations because that means I can find a good book to read. Today, I am thankful to be in a class that makes reading fun again. Reading will always be fun, but the key is that it has to be something that interests me. Something that takes me to another place. Thank goodness for learning about Children’s Lit this semester… I have a feeling I will be happy to read for that class.

I encourage you to find a good book… one that makes you happy… and read it when you have time. Even if that means one page a day. Read something exciting because it is good for you and because it is something that will take you away from the stress of life. I promise you will be happy you did!

Southern and Thankful
