I tried to go to bed early last night because I had to wake up this morning at 6:30. Somethings kept me from getting the proper amount of sleep I wanted, but I still was up and ready to go to Monday at TCU! Monday at TCU is a day for students who are looking at TCU. Mostly juniors and some seniors attend this special day to get a better look at TCU! I attended Monday at TCU and I am so excited that I get to help out on these days. Today I gave a tour and also helped on the student panel. The tour was absolutely freezing, I don’t really complain much, but it was pretty cold. I felt really bad for the families in my groups because we were taking them around campus in this crazy weather. Our tour schedule is outside for the most part and because of this weather we really tired to hurry to the few spots that were inside. If I was cold, I know they had to be. We kept assuring them that this was not an everyday winter here in Fort Worth. I mean yesterday we had on shorts… literally. I just hope the weather didn’t effect the tour too bad and there full focus was on the campus. I know at times it was hard for me to concentrate at times because it was so cold, but we made sure to ask if they had questions and we did the best we could! No matter how cold, I am positive they saw our love for TCU!
After my tour, I worked the student panel. This is a room of prospective students only with 5 or so current students and they can ask whatever questions they want without the presence of parents in the room. We answer them honestly which is really cool because this is where students often find out what they really want to know. I did that for over an hour and I was so happy to.
1. Because this was inside and warm
2. Because I want to help get as many people to TCU as possible. I feel this is one of the best ways I can do that!
I always find it funny because being in a room with about 30 to 50 people, they all seem to notice my accent. I have gotten to wear I just say
“Hi everyone my name is Cade Bethea. I am freshman, Strategic Communications major from Stuttgart, Arkansas. And yes, I have an accent.”
That last line gets them every time. If I don’t say that, odds are someone will point it out!
I am not a dumb person. I tend to have a good eye and I am pretty alert. Today, as I was talking I noticed a girl who was on her phone. I have a phone. I know all the tricks. You all probably do to! This girl was doing that trick where she acts like she is looking at her phone, but she is really holding it at an angel to record. I guess I have fans now because I know she was recording me. My bet is that it was for snapchat! The funny thing is that she was on the front row! I wanted to wave at it, but then I knew everyone would be like “what is he doing?” lol yay for fans!
After this, three classes and a nap… I am ready to call it a day. You know I am tired when I take a nap… I rarely do that! Despite the businesses of today, I am still thankful I was able to show my love for TCU. Not even the weather can take that away from me!
I would also like to give a huge birthday shoutout to Mrs. Stacey Homra! I am so blessed to have another “aunt” who loves me so much and has been such a huge light for many! Even though she went to Baylor, I still love her! I hope you have had a great and I hope all my Stuttgart friends are staying safe with all that ice! I can’t wait to celebrate when I get home!!
Despite the weather, we can still find the joy in life! Whether that is celebrating a Birthday, showing love for TCU or probably making someones Snapchat story, life always has joy. I am thankful for this joy even on the coldest of days… I am sure I will be in shorts again soon! Until then, stay warm and stay thankful!
Yours Truly,
Southern and Thankful
