Everyday I wake up and I tell myself that I am going to wear my glasses because I am just too tired to put in my contacts. I also tell myself I am going to go straight to class and come back to take a nap, but neither ever happen. I don’t really know anything besides glasses or contacts because I have been wearing one or the other since I was 3 months old. Lately I have been thinking what it would be like to not be able to see. If I didn’t have glasses when I was 3 months old, what would have happened?
Growing up there was always the typical child mockery that glasses are for nerds. There came a point that when I got a little older that I kind of believed this. I didn’t want to be a nerd and I didn’t want to be four eyes and I didn’t want to constantly wear glasses. I got contacts and boy have those been interesting. My vision is so bad that I have to have these special contacts and don’t get me wrong they are a great invention, but sometimes they can be a pain. I have never really realized how great my glasses were until recently.
Today I got up and told myself I was going to wear my glasses, and I actually did. I have never really thought about why I don’t wear my glasses, but I guess because I felt like it was never “cool” that I got out of that habit.
So today I am simply thankful for my glasses. I would not be myself without them. I would not be Cade Bethea without them. God gives us all things that make us unique. In fact, he gives us multiple things that make us who we are. I am thankful that I have begun to realize that my glasses make me who I am and I would not be myself without them. Be thankful for the things that make you oh so special. It can be small or big, but if you’d be a different person without it, then odds are it makes you special. We may sometimes have a love hate relationship, but truth is I love my glasses and I am so thankful for them today and everyday.
